Thoughts

Facebook expands its plans to make the rest of the world wide web social with the concept of authenticating third party sites using Facebook Connect.

Social plugins have now been developed to offer instant personalization using iFrames and cookies. An example of this can been found below.

Click “like” and see what happens in your personal facebook feed.
We have added this feature to our website for test purposes and would love to hear your thoughts on the interaction between our website and your Facebok profile.

For those of you who dislike the idea and wish to disable the feature entirely here are the steps to follow:

1. First, login to facebook and look for the Account tab located in the top right hand corner, from the drop-down menu choose Privacy Settings

2. Select the Applications and Websites link.

3. Look for the Instant Personalization section and select Edit Settings.

4. Ensure the check mark is removed from the box marked Allow select partners to instantly personalize their features with my public information when I first arrive on their websites.

5. Select Confirm.

6. Now select Applications and Websites tab to go back to the main screen. Locate the What your friends can share about you section and click Edit Settings

7. Remove all check marks and select Save Changes

8. Nearly there.. We now need to disable Facebook’s three partners. Click here to launch the facebook docks page. Locate Block Application under the pages profile image.

9. Select Block Docs

10. Now follow steps 8 and 9 for the following apps the Pandora app and the Yelp app.

11. That’s it your done.. Docs, Pandora and Yelp are the only three partners right now but rest assured there will be more.. Please bear this in mind.
